Native to Central and South America, the Maranta gets its common name from its habit of folding its leaves upwards at night, like hands in prayer. This behaviour is called Nyctinasty and is the plants response to changes in light and temperature levels. There are around 40 species of Maranta; this one is charectorised by leaves that are a soft green with light purple splotches. Maranta Kerchoveana is also known as the Green Prayer Plant.

Use room temperature water to keep the soil lightly moist and give it a spot in medium indirect light with increased humidity to try to replicate as much as possible its Rainforest origins.

Air purifying and non toxic.
